Reopening & Planning
UPDATED SEPTEMBER 22, 2020
A Stronger Tomorrow Begins Today
As we work hard to adapt and prepare CVSD for this fall, one thing will remain constant - our commitment to providing a robust education while protecting the health and safety of all students and staff. We are calling on all members of our community to help build a safer, even stronger community!
The recommendations and guidance relative to COVID-19 and the reopening of schools have continued to change rapidly Therefore, the CVSD Reopening and Planning Taskforce has taken a proactive approach to planning for Fall 2020. On June 30, 2020, the Chartiers Valley School District Board of Directors and Pennsylvania Department of Education approved a Preliminary Reopening of Schools Plan. On August 11, the Board approved a revised plan for the start of the 2020-21 school year.
Since then, the CVSD Reopening and Planning Task Force have continued to research, collaborate, and develop recommendations regarding specific areas of both instruction and safety. Their work has been informed by feedback received in more than 5,000 parent survey responses and a careful evaluation of student/staff attendance, data, guidelines, and recommended best practices issued by the CDC, state and county health departments, and PA Department of Education. Additionally, Dr. Civitarese has offered his expert opinion as a member of the District's Reopening and Planning Task Force.
On September 22, 2020, the CVSD School Board approved Phase 2 of the Reopening Plan, which provides a 3rd option for Chartiers Valley students. In addition to fully-remote (CV Cyber) and Hybrid (2 in-person days per week) options, families may now elect to have students attend in-person +2 additional days per week. In other words, students have the option to attend in person on Monday through Thursday, with Friday as a remote learning day.
The +2 option will begin on a scaffolded schedule:
Primary School - October 5
IntermediateSchool - October 12
Middle School - October 19
High School - October 19

The revised Reopening Plan includes updates to these instructional options and amended health and safety procedures, which were approved by the CVSD School Board on September 22, 2020.
Reopening Schools Task ForceBeginning in May, before the 2019-2020 school year was even over, the Chartiers Valley School District, in consideration of the challenges faced during the spring 2020 COVID-19 school closures and in preparation for the upcoming school year, developed a Reopening and Planning Task Force.
The task force, comprised of faculty, staff, and administrators, is charged with developing specific action plans for a safe return to school this fall in various areas such as Facilities and School Operations, Instruction, Technology, Communication, Community Partnerships, and Human Resources. Additionally, local physician Dr. Civitarese has offered his expert opinion as a member of the District's Reopening and Planning Task Force.
Guiding Principles for ReopeningAs with all other decisions and functions, District leaders and the Reopening and Planning Taskforce has maintained alignment with the Chartiers Valley Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
