Career Readiness

The academic standards for Career Education & Work (2006) describe what students should know and be able to do at four grade levels (3, 5, 8, & 11) in four strand areas:

13.1 Career Awareness and Preparation

13.2 Career Acquisition (Getting a Job)

13.3 Career Retention and Advancement

13.4 Entrepreneurship

Pennsylvania now requires all school districts to have a comprehensive Chapter 339 Plan to meet the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements through Career Readiness Indicators.

The Grade 5 benchmark must be met to indicate if each individual student has met the indicator outcomes.

* Six total pieces of evidence are needed.

* Two of the six must be met by the conclusion of grade 3.

* Two of the six must be completed in grade 4.

* Two of the six must be completed in grade 5.

* Each of the four career strands must be addressed at least once in six total pieces of evidence.

Junior Achievement Day

Each school year; we will be using the Junior Achievement Program in order to meet those requirements.  Each grade level (3, 4, 5) will require two pieces of evidence through JA DAY session activity worksheets.  This evidence will be put in a Career Readiness folder and placed in each student's permanent record.

The following are the grade level sessions activity sheets placed in each student's career readiness folder:

3rd Grade: Our City / Session 5 - "Reci-Ps" Business Plan Sheet & Session 5 - "Reci-Ps" Payment Sheet

4th Grade: Our Region / Session 1 - My Entrepreneur Traits Card & Session 3 - Business Tasks Card

5th Grade: Our Nation / Session 3 - Career Quest Sheet / Session 4 - Get and Keep the Job Sheet
