It takes a village...
Thank you to the CV community for showing your CV Spirit & celebrating the Class of 2020 with us!
On the evening of May 28, our teachers and staff lined the HS parking lot (social distance style) and neighbors cheered from their porches as members of the Class of 2020 drove through their neighborhoods and the HS campus.
It was an incredible community-wide celebration!
UPDATED JULY 21, 2020
As the COVID-19 situation continues to develop throughout the country and in our region, we continue to follow guidance from state and county officials.
On July 17, 2020, Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen announced a new order to mitigate the spread of coronavirus cases following review of the state's orders released earlier last week. According to the latest restrictions, indoor gatherings are limited to 25 people, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 50 people.
Our hope was that restrictions on social gatherings would be relaxed enough to go forward with our plans to hold the prom on alternative date #2, July 27; however, this will not be possible due to continued restrictions on large social gatherings. We are so very disappointed, but we will need to cancel the 2020 prom. We know that this adds to the disappointment and frustration that comes with the life changes we have had to make during the pandemic, but we must continue to find other ways to stay connected with each other and look forward to a time when we can celebrate together as a school community.
We are still planning to hold the CVHS commencement ceremony on July 30. In an effort to be prepared for varying levels of restrictions, we have devised the following plan for commencement:
- Four commencement sessions
- One senior with as many guests who may legally ride in a single-family sized vehicle with the senior
- One senior receiving a diploma at a time with guests watching on the field in front of the stage
- Professional compilation video available for purchase at a later date
Seniors who are unable to attend the ceremony may pick up their diploma from the High School office from Monday through Wednesday of next week between 7:30 and 2:00 pm.
Should you have further questions or concerns, please contact Chris Doherty, Graduation Coordinator, in the high school office at 412-429-2273 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are looking forward to a beautiful day!
JULY 3, 2020 UPDATE
While it was our hope that relief from restrictions would be granted by the state in time to celebrate prom and commencement on their original dates of May 22 (prom) and May 28 (commencement), continued COVID-19 closures and social distancing orders have forced CVSD to develop and implement a back-up plan.
In collaboration with senior student leadership and high school teachers, alternative dates have been established. We hope this brings some sense of relief during this uncertain time and allows your family to make tentative plans as we await future direction from state officials.
On July 2, 2020, the Allegheny County Health Department issued an order which includes the following restrictions: gatherings and events shall be limited to a maximum of 25 individuals. This order begins July 3 and runs through July 10, 2020. (Click here to view the order.)
In compliance with this order, the District has moved Prom and Commencement events to the previously-communicated Alternative Plan #2. Please note that we cannot predict what may occur in late-July, and there is a possibility that we would have to cancel and/or modify both events. The safety of our students and community is of utmost priority.
Alternative Plan #2
Prom - July 27
Graduation practice - July 29
Graduation - July 30
Understandably, students and families may have other arrangements or may choose not to partake on these dates. All prom ticket sales have been refunded. To purchase tickets for Prom on July 27, click here.
If you plan to not attend commencement on July 30, please click here to complete the commencement opt-out form. Other arrangements will be made for your student to receive their diploma and commencement photo.
Seniors and their guests should watch their email for specific graduation day guidelines and procedures. Please contact Chris Doherty, Commencement Coordinator, in the high school office at 412-429-2273 or email@example.com should you have any questions.
The COVID-19 crisis is a constantly moving target, which makes it quite difficult to anticipate and plan from one week to the next. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work through this “together, apart” and plan to make the Class of 2020 commencement as memorable as possible!
