The building blocks of successful communication
Speech/Language Support services are included under the Special Education Program. Students are referred to the Speech/Language Pathologist by the classroom teacher or parent. The child's speech and language skills are screened to determine if further evaluation is indicated. If the child passes the standardized screening, no further action is taken, and the child's speech is considered to be adequate for successful communication. If skills are found to be deficient in any area screened, then a possible speech/language disorder may be considered. Standard special education procedures are then followed at this point, beginning with the issueing of a Permission to Evaluate form. These procedures may be found under the Special Education tab on the Chartiers Valley website.
