February 14 Board Meeting Recap

Mr. Steven Cypher and Mr. Luke Rayle, the school district's auditors, presented the 2015-2016 audit report at the Feb. 14 School Board meeting. In addition, Mr. Jason Day, Construction Manager, gave an update on the High School and Middle School construction project. 

Colt Connections: From Crayons to Creative Director Larry Levine

As soon as he could hold a crayon, drawing became a major part of Larry Levine’s life. “I started drawing at a very young age,” said Larry, who graduated from Chartiers Valley in 2003. I’ve always had a general interest in the arts.”  Read more of Larry's story>>



Kids of Steel Kids of Steel - Third Grade

The Kids of Steel program is off and running again at the Intermediate School. Approximately 75 students in grades three, four and five are participating during their lunch recess on Wednesdays.

Interact Club supports Wreaths Across America Interact Club - Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America, ​is ​a nationwide program which distributes holiday wreaths as a tribute to Veterans laid to rest at VA national cemeteries and state Veterans cemeteries.

Interact Club members volunteer at Night to Shine Night to Shine volunteers

CVHS Interact Club members were among the 150,000 volunteers to take part in A Night to Shine, a prom night experience for students with special needs.

IS students attend historically significant play about Negro League baseball star Josh Gibson

A group of fifth grade students, one from each classroom, took a field trip to the New Horizon Theater on February 6th to watch a matinee of Josh: The Black Babe Ruth, the life story of Negro League baseball player, Homestead native and MLB Hall of Fame inductee Josh Gibson as written by Michael A. Jones. 

Boys WPIAL banner unveiled Boys 2016 WPIAL Soccer Champions

Athletic Director Angie Potthoff presented the 2017 boys soccer team with its WPIAL Championship banner on February 13.

Early Childhood JA Day at Primary School Early Childhood JA Day at Primary School

The Early Childhood Practicum students from the High School taught the Junior Achievement program, JA Ourselves, to the kindergarten students at the Primary School on Feb. 7.

FCCLA members give their time to Jubilee Soup Kitchen

FCCLA members Sarah Dobbins, Anisa Islamova, Lucy Sommers, Nirali Surati, Mary Camacho and Mrs. Yamatani prepared and served food to over 100  homeless people at the Jubilee Soup Kitchen on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Freshman Sam Kagle wins PA State Games chess championship Sam Kagle

CVHS freshman Samuel Kagle won first place in the Scholastic Division of the 2017 PA State Game/75 Chess Championship held at the University of Pittsburgh, Feb. 4.

Fifth Grade Family Book Club Family Book Club

The Intermediate School hosted another Family Book Club on Feb. 7. This time, fifth grade students and their families were invited to read “The City of Ember” by Jeanne DuPrau.

Troupe competes at UDA National competition in Orlando

CVHS Dance Troupe competed at the the UDA National Dance Team Championships Feb. 3-5 at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

Growth Mindset Family Event Brett Keisel and Students

The Intermediate School recently held a Growth Mindset evening event for families. The goal of the session was to provide parents with small, manageable steps to cultivate a growth mindset to help increase a child’s motivation to learn, which will yield benefits for years to come.

Assembly provides sobering insight to the consequences of drug use Saltworks Theatre Company

Saltworks Theatre Company performed two assemblies at the High School on February 3, using drug and overdose-related scenarios to help students realize the dangers of drug use.
