Earlier this week, Chartiers Valley Kindergarten teacher Nicole Lloyd served as an expert presenter at the Pennsylvania Conference for Kindergarten Teachers. She was invited to speak by the Staff Development for Educators (SDE).
Lloyd spoke to an audience of Kindergarten teachers seeking the support and vast knowledge necessary for such an important job. Lloyd's presentation, "Revving-Up Reading with Multi-sensory Instruction" focused on teaching kindergarteners the foundations of reading.
Thanks to Lloyd's session, conference attendees acquired tools to enhance students' skills through daily phonological awareness practice and word-building instruction. They left with plans for integrating visual, auditory and kinesthetic approaches for teaching phonics and early reading skills.
During her 10-year teaching career, Lloyd has gained experience as an intervention specialist in K-2 and has taught internationally. Nicole is trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach and has studied various multi-sensory approaches to teaching reading in the primary grades.
