Superintendent Dr. Johannah Vanatta recognized Intermediate School SRO Ed Povirk for his outstanding work with students, coordination of the D.A.R.E. Program, and a member of the school’s safety and crisis teams and will soon be awarded the NASRO Regional Exceptional Service Award at the organization’s national convention later this month.
Dr. Vanatta also noted that the new Fresh Thyme store in Great Southern Shopping center has designated the High School and Primary School as beneficiaries of the Fresh Thyme Giving Bag program through August in which a portion of the proceeds from sales of recyclable cloth grocery bags will be awarded to the schools. The drill team and majorettes performed at Fresh Thyme’s grand opening on June 12.
Dr. Vanatta congratulated the students, teachers, administrators and parents who had an integral part in the success of the graduating class of 2018.
Mr. Jason Day of general contractor PJ Dick presented the monthly construction report detailing progress and expenditures of the new High School building. Mr. Day noted that contractors are nearly completion of all punch list items at the Middle School and are nearing completion of roofing, fireproofing, masonry and exterior stud work on the High School. Interior stud and slab-on-grade work at the High School is in process and work is set to begin on air barrier placement in June. Aluminum windows have been delivered and work is progressing on their installation as well. The Directors approved the hiring of Ms. Emily Eckman as Director of Finance with a start date of July 2, 2018. Ms. Eckman, a Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, most recently held the position of Accounting Supervisor for Moon Area School District. Prior to MASD she was Director of Accounting for West Liberty University. MS. Eckman holds a Master’s Degree in Accountancy from Liberty University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a Specialization in Accounting from West Liberty University.
The Directors approved the hiring of Mr. Patrick Myers as High School Principal. Over his 19 years at Charters Valley, Mr. Myers has served as School Psychologist, Special Education Coordinator, Middle School Assistant Principal, Intermediate School Principal, and High School Principal for Student Support.
