Give Grant provides for Sensory Boxes at Primary School

Sensory Boxes shelf in PS Book Room

Mrs. Dissen used a GIVE Grant she received from the Chartiers Valley Education Foundation to create “Sensory Boxes to Go” for the Primary School. Mrs. Dissen created 10 sensory boxes along with five additional baskets that have individual items available for checkout through the library. Check out time for each item or box is a maximum of two weeks. Sensory Boxes To Go are located in the Book Room.

Teachers are encouraged to checkout a sensory box or an item from a basket to use for students who may need a little something extra to help them throughout the day. Sensory boxes and the items in the basket provide students with multiple tactile sensory activities, without them having to leave or disrupt the classroom.

Each sensory box is a container filled with assorted fillers and tactile activities. There are three boxes containing multiple fidgets to choose from. Some sensory boxes may have a theme, such as ocean animals, that allow students to explore different textures.

Single items located in the brown baskets containing wobble cushions, bouncy kick bands, weighted lap pads, TheraPutty, and texture square bags can be checked out individually as well.
