Specific topics of discussion included Middle School Career Assessment, budgeting, clusters and Career Day, ASVAB/PSAT exams, mock interviewing, Interest Inventory/Holland Code matching, Parkway West CTC, Primary School Career Exploration, Intermediate School Career Exploration/Junior Achievement/Entrpreneurial Skills, and the job landscape of the city, region and country. The final point of discussion included an examination of Pursuing Passion vs. Pursuing Opportunity, featuring a Youtube video with Mike Rowe of the television series Dirty Jobs.
The Advisory Council, which meets twice a year, is comprised of community members, local business representatives, parents, school counselors, administrators and faculty members. This was the third Advisory Council Meeting since its creation in the 2016-2017 school year. The Council was formed as part of the K-12 School Counseling Plan as directed by Chapter 339. The Advisory is a joint collaborative effort among administrators, teachers, students, families, local businesses, and post secondary options.
The Advisory Council will meet again in March 2018. If you are interested in learning more about the K-12 School Counseling Program Advisory Council for this year, please contact Matthew Swift at firstname.lastname@example.org.
