The Middle School and Intermediate School students recently completed beautiful works of art that they have submitted to the Sprout Fund’s Belonging Project.
“Belonging” is a community art project arranged by the Sprout Fund. Members of the community are encouraged to submit original works of art that express the concept of “belonging.”
Intermediate School art teacher, Mrs. Mary Mastren-Williams introduced Mrs. Beckett’s third, fourth and fifth grade students to the concept of blind contour drawings. The students each had one minute to draw a picture of a classmates without looking down at their paper as they drew.
Students completed several drawings of their friends. Then, each student selected one drawing of him or herself and painted it with water color.
Next, the students each wrote about the time when they first felt like they belonged. Finally, the students’ writing was combined with their artwork to create one masterpiece.
Middle School students also created unique works of art that honor immigrants and refugees. Middle School students submitted four works of art to the Belonging Project.
