Kayla Rennie becomes first CVHS student to earn PSMLA Global Scholar honor

Mrs. Belcastro and Kayla Rennie

Congratulations Kayla Rennie for earning the distinction of 2017 Pennsylvania State Modern Language Association Global Scholars Graduate! Kayla, under advisor Mrs. Karen Belcastro, is the first Chartiers Valley student to earn this honor.

Jan Hostler Stewart, D.Ed. and past president of the PSMLA Global Scholars Program, lauded Kayla for her initiative and work ethic in a congratulatory letter, saying, "The PSMLA Global Scholars Program parallels programs in other states and is designed for students to complete over a 4-year period. As this is only the second year of the program in Pennsylvania, Kayla has shown the particular initiative of completing all of the components in a smaller time frame. It is a credit to all of you that your district has provided an environment that fosters forward, global thinking that will prepare today’s students for personal and professional success in the global community and economy." Dr. Stewart also will notify PA Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera of Kayla’s achievement and of Mrs. Belcastro's role in promoting the Global Scholars Program at CVHS.

Requirements for becoming a Global Scholar can be found on the CVHS Global Scholars web page.

PSMLA introduced the Global Scholars Program to recognize students in Pennsylvania who participate in interdisciplinary studies and activities that are global in nature in order to:

  • Develop global awareness or competency.
  • Better prepare themselves for personal and professional success in an increasingly global society.
