On March 7th, Chartiers Valley Middle School sent 16 gifted and talented 8th grade students to the Northern Area Gifted Consortium’s Mock Trial at La Roche College. Students worked with the high school level PA Bar Association 2013 Mock Trial case. This year’s case was a criminal case where the Commonwealth of PA attempted to convict Tatum Zillias, owner of a building development firm, of 3rd degree murder.
CV's defense team competed against a prosecution team from North Allegheny's Marshall Middle School. CV's prosecution team competed against Avonworth Middle School's defense team. The students worked very hard on their cases over the past few weeks and their hard work paid off as both teams won in their rooms for their performances. Abbey Copeland liked many aspects of the trial but she said her favorite part was "making objections! It felt so good to prove someone wrong and have the judge sustain it!"
Abbey Copeland (defense) and Sydney Capan (prosecution) won Best Attorney awards and Cora Brown (defense) and Ashley Collura (prosecution) earned Best Witness recognition for their mock trial performances.
The following students participated for CVMS:
