Pennsylvania Act 82 Article XVI-C: Disclosure of Interscholastic Athletic Opportunities
On June 30, 2012, the Pennsylvania General Assembly amended the Public School Code to mandate reporting by school entities of athletic opportunities afforded to male and female secondary school students. All public, charter, cyber and vocational technical schools must submit reports pursuant to Act 82. This act requires school entities to report to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) on an annual basis, data related to interscholastic athletic opportunities and treatment for male and female athletes in grades 7-12. At this time, there is no requirement under Act 82 to report data on groups such as marching bands, clubs or intramural sports. Act 82 requires that each school district provide notice of the report’s availability for review to students, educational personnel, student athletes and parents.
