May 23 Board Meeting Recap

The school board recognized several students for their outstanding academic accomplishments at the May 23, 2017 meeting. In addition, Mrs. Adrienne Floro, Middle School Principal, shared findings from the series focus groups revolving around Middle School Learning Culture and Curriculum. Dr. Brian White, Superintendent, and Mr, Nick Morelli, Director of Finance and Operations, presented the preliminary budget for the 2017-2018 school year.

A first grade class from Avalon Elementary in the Northgate School District was invited to engage in an innovative learning experience at the Primary School. Mrs. Zissis’ first graders hosted the event in the STEAM room.

Early Child Care Center students observed the hatching of chicks and metamorphosis of butterflies over a 21 day period.

Book leads first grade class to learn about endangered species Stuffed animals representing endangered species

After reading the book, The Penguin Problem, by Abby Klein, in which a fictional first grade classroom raises money to save an endangered species of penguin, Mrs. Venezia's first grade class decided they wanted to do something to help endangered species as well.

Kindergarten Readiness Workshop

The Primary School's incoming students and their parents rotated between readiness workshops focused on math, reading and fine motor skills on Tuesday, May 2.

Primary School students benefit from help of TLCv tutors TLCv tutors and their Primary School students

Primary School students benefit both personally and academically from the extra one-on-one attention they receive two days a week in the classroom from the High School TLCv tutors who logged 638 hours of assistance this year.

Kindergarten students enjoy field trip to National Aviary National Aviary field trip

Kindergarten students observed flamingos, condors, toucans, Andean condors, lories and lorikeets, bald eagles, and Steller's sea eagles while on a field trip to the National Aviary.

Pittsburgh Personalized Learning Consortium

Chartiers Valley School District is part of the Pittsburgh Personalized Learning Consortium. Hosted by the Grable Foundation, the Pittsburgh Personalized Learning Consortium includes educators from neighboring school districts who want to integrate personalized learning into their classrooms. In addition to Chartiers Valley, Avonworth, Baldwin-Whitehall, Burrell, Deer Lakes, Elizabeth Forward, Fox Chapel Area, Fort Cherry, Frazier, North Allegheny, Northgate, Steel Valley and South Fayette plan to participate.

More than 120 Primary and Intermediate School students ran in the Pittsburgh Kids Marathon after training in the Kids of Steel program.

Computer Applications class takes on storybook editing Storybook editing

Mrs. Julianna White's seventh grade Computer Applications class traveled to the Primary School on May 5th to share children's stories which they had edited from Google Docs into mini book form.

Kindergarten student wins the PBS writer's contest Aarav Parthiban

Aarav Parthibana, a kindergarten student in Mrs. Dietrick's class, wrote and illustrated a story on his recent family vacation to India and submitted it to the PBS Kids GO! Writers Contest where he took first place in two categories!

Remake Learning Days STEM Night

Remake Learning Days is around the corner! Chartiers Valley Intermediate School is participating by hosting "Family STEM Night" on Tuesday, May 16 from 6-8 pm at CVIS.
