Do you like performing? Is building mechanical devices your thing? Are you artistic or do you just like solving problems and working with friends? If you answered, “Yes!” to any of these questions, then Odyssey of the Mind (OM) might be right for you!
In OM, students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade form teams of 5-7 students with 1 or 2 adult coaches (usually the parents of group members) to compete against other kids while having fun. Your team chooses a long-term problem from a choice of six problems, and then you create an 8-minute “solution” to your problem to perform for the judges at the Western PA Regional Competition in March 2016 at Moon Area School District. Visit http://www.odysseyofthemind.com/ to view the 2015-2016 Long-Term Problem Synopses.
There is never a correct answer, so just be creative and have tons of fun!
P.S. CVSD Parents: There are ways for you to be involved too! You could volunteer as an adult coach for your child’s team. You could also volunteer to be an Odyssey of the Mind judge. Contact Mrs. Adrienne Floro at 412-429-2220 with questions or to learn more.
