Fresh Thyme pledges donations to CVSD schools

The drill team and majorettes performed for employees and some anxious shoppers at Fresh Thyme’s Great Southern Shopping Center grand opening on June 12. Fresh Thyme has designated the High School and Primary School as beneficiaries of the Fresh Thyme Giving Bag program through August in which a portion of the proceeds from sales of recyclable cloth grocery bags will be awarded to the schools.

Seniors, if you haven't already done so, return your laptops to the high school technology department as soon as possible for important updates. If you plan to keep your laptop, this upgrade and preventative maintenance are mandatory to prevent operational failure.

The Chartiers Valley Pickleball team edged Upper St. Clair 5-4 on May 20th in the 9th annual Pickleball Challenge, reataining the coveted title and securing bragging rights for another year.

Act 1 Referendum and Campus Safety

With the rejection of the Act 1 referendum question that appeared on Tuesday’s primary ballot, Chartiers Valley School District would like to ensure the community that the safety and security of our students, teachers, administration, and support personnel was not dependent on the passage of this week’s referendum.


Tickets to watch promenade are now on sale. Students walking in promenade do not need tickets, only those coming to watch. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased on cvticketing.com. Promenade starts at 4:30 pm on June 1 at the High School auditorium.

High School Building Evacuation - May 7, 2018

Dear Parents:


Today at approximately 8:50 A.M., the High School Administration was made aware a threat that was written on a bathroom stall.  The Administration immediately evacuated the building and notified law enforcement of this threat. The Collier Township Police Department responded immediately and completed a search of the building and determined that there was no credibility to the threat. The students were cleared to re-enter the building at 9:30 A.M. to resume classes.


The District is thankful to the Collier Police Department for their commitment to making Chartiers Valley a safe place.

March 13 Board Meeting Recap

General contractor PJ Dick provided a construction update and the board approved placing a referendum on the May 2018 ballot for an increase to the tax millage rate to specifically address campus and student safety.

Varsity Girls Club Bowling team advances to state championship tournament Girls Bowling team

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Club Bowling team for advancing to the Pennsylvania High School State championship tournament!  The team finished in 5th Place in the Regionals qualifying tournament held on Saturday, March 10, at Princess Lanes, Whitehall.

Girl Gov summer program now accepting applications

The Women and Girls Foundation is excited to begin accepting applications for our 2018 - 2019 GirlGov.  A yearlong program designed to provide local girls with the opportunity to learn, first hand, about government, civics, advocacy, philanthropy, community involvement, youth organizing, women’s history, and leadership.

Two wrestlers place at WPIAL Tournament PIAA Wrestling qualifiers

Congratulations to wrestlers Shamil Zaynulleav (3rd) and Zachary Macy (4th) who placed at the WPIAL wrestling tournament, March 2-3 at Canon-McMillan. Shamil and Zachary advance to the PIAA tournament on March 8.

Chartiers Valley had Six wrestlers advance to the WPIAL Championships at the Section 4A Individual Wrestling Tournament February 23-24, including section champion Shamil Zaynullaev. The WPIAL Individual Championship will be held at at Canon-McMillan March 2-3.

Lunch Menu altered for September 28

Due to a gas main break the High School lunch menu for Thursday, September 28 will be limited to mostly cold foods. Menu items will include cold lunch meat sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, hamburgers, and salad bar. 

** Gas service was restored at 10 am. There is a possibilty that some hot menu items will be available.

September 5 Board Meeting Recap

The Chartiers Valley Board of School Directors accepted the resignation of Director Jamie Stevenson with two-plus years remaining on his term. Board President Mr. Mazzarini thanked Mr. Stevenson for his six years of valued service to the district.

Dear Parents,
On behalf of the School Board of Directors,  I am pleased to once again confirm our school district will be starting classes as scheduled on Tuesday the 5th of September.
HS/MS Traffic Pattern for 2017-2018 HS/MS Traffic Pattern 2017-2018

As of August 28, 2017, traffic will revert to a One-Way pattern along the perimiter of the property. The main entrance to the Chartiers Valley High School and Middle School campus will be across from the State Building on Thoms Run Road. The road leading from the Middle School along the rear of the gyms and stadium will be closed to non-construction vehicles and traffic. 

August 22 Board Meeting Recap

Finance Committee
Mr. Kuczinski stated that the committee reviewed the internal construction summary as well as the PJ Dick summary and found everything to be in line with what was expected. The committee also held a preliminary interview with a potential business manager. 

Diversity Panel at Chartiers Valley

The Anti-Defamation League and the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh are hosting an event at the Chartiers Valley Intermediate School on Thursday, August 17 from 9-10:30 am.

On behalf of the Chartiers Valley Board of School Directors, we want to thank Dr. White for his dedication and leadership over the past seven years. His tireless efforts have taken our district to new heights and he will be missed. We wish him much success in his new leadership role.

Dear the Chartiers Valley Community:


On August 2, 2017, I accepted the position of Superintendent for the Butler Area School District.  I am currently working through the details of my transition from Chartiers Valley School District to Butler Area School District.


It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as superintendent of the Chartiers Valley School District for the past seven years. Through the hard work of faculty, staff and principals, the district has made significant academic programmatic changes that have benefited students.

CV Cheerleaders Compete at Kennywood Cheerleaders at Kennywood

The Chartiers Valley Cheerleaders recently competed at the 2017 Kennywood Cheerleading Competition where they earned third place. Congratulations to the team! 

July 25 Board Meeting Recap

Superintendent’s Report

Dr. White discussed enrollment and staffing needs, particularly at the Primary School. The district’s kindergarten enrollment is high, which translates to larger than ideal class sizes. In addition, class sizes for first and second grade are at maximum capacity. Administrators are reviewing options for shifting staff internally to help keep classes at an ideal size. However, if enrollment continues to increase before the start of the year, it’s possible the district may need an additional teacher at the Primary School.

Dance Troupe earns bid to Nationals at Kentucky summer competition CVHS Dance Troupe

CVHS Dance Troupe earned first place at a July competition in Kentucky to earn a bid to compete in UDA Nationals in February.

While our students and faculty have been on summer break, we have been very busy preparing our schools for the start of the 2017-2018 school year -- particularly at the High School/Middle School campus. Our construction management team is providing frequent updates on the High School/Middle School construction project. We are very happy to report that everything is still on schedule!

July 11, 2017 School Board Meeting Canceled

The July 11, 2017 Chartiers Valley School Board meeting has been canceled. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 6:30 pm in the District Assembly Room. 

June 22 Board Meeting Recap

The Chartiers Valley Board of School Directors passed the 2017-2018 general fund budget at the June 22, 2017 School Board meeting. In addition, the board approved the hire of a new Primary School Principal.

The Chartiers Valley School Board reviewed the budget for the upcoming school year at the June 13, 2017 meeting. In addition, Mr. Jason Day gave an update on the High School/Middle School construction project.

The June 27 meeting of the Chartiers Valley Board of School Directors has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2017. The meeting will take place at 6:30 pm in the Distrit Assembly Room (2030 Swallow Hill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15220).

CVHS & CVMS Summer Traffic Patterns

We hope your summer vacation is off to a great start! As our students enjoy their time off, construction is in full swing at the High School/Middle School campus. As of Monday, June 5, 2017, the main entrance to the Chartiers Valley High School and Middle School campus will be closed. The main exit of the Chartiers Valley High School and Middle School campus will become two-way giving visitors access to the tennis court parking lot. The rest of campus will be closed to traffic. We expect this modified traffic pattern to remain in place throughout the summer.
