CAREER EXPLORATION RESOURCES
Career planning at the high school level is often a challenging process for many students however our goal is to support every student’s journey in finding the right career path. Chartiers Valley School District has selected Naviance Student as the online resource to assist in managing the career planning process. Naviance Student is utilized through classroom lessons presented by school counselors, Advisory lessons, as well as for post-secondary planning. Students and families are encouraged to utilize this resource throughout their time at Chartiers Valley High School.
Each student has an account already created for them. To access the Naviance account log onto:
Username: student id#
Password: Date of birth (8 digits)
Some of the career features include:
Career Interest Profiler
This tool helps students discover careers that match areas of their interest. Students are asked to answer “like”, “unsure”, or “dislike” to 180 different work activities. They then are given a listing of careers that best match their interests. Each listed career has a profile with detailed information such as job descriptions, education requirements, related occupations, related college majors, knowledge and skills required, common work activities/tasks, and wage outlook. All 10th grade students complete this assessment with a lesson presented by the counselors. This is then utilized to support their research for the writing of a career research paper in the English class.
Personality Type Assessment
The Do What You Are® Self Discovery Personality Type assessment will generate a report that will provide the student with important information about personal characteristics. They will learn about careers that are matched to their personal strengths and blind spots, how they negotiate in daily life, and a host of other useful information.
The Cluster Finder
The Cluster Finder helps students learn what career clusters may be a good match for them based on activities that they have interest, personal qualities, and subjects enjoyed studying at school. Each career cluster is then further divided into career pathways that allow students to complete more in depth research.
